An
emerging talent in the San Francisco Bay Area, Karla Avila teaches and
performs in a variety of musical venues and genres. Her formal musical
training includes a M.M. in Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music (2003) and a B.M. from the University of North Texas in Denton,
Texas (2000) where she studied clarinet, saxophone, voice, and piano.
The
scope of her musical talent encompasses being a professional
clarinet/saxophonist, both classical and non-classical, private instruction
in clarinet/saxophone, and a multitude of collaborative projects on vocals
and/or woodwinds in styles of music ranging from progressive rock to fusion
to dub. Her extensive classical training, both instrumental and vocal,
coupled with her passion for the progressive melding of musical genres has
allowed her to explore many avenues of music performance and creation.
